Bourjois Twist up the Volume Mascara

Twist up the Volume is the new mascara from Bourjois which allows you to change the size of the brush depending on the effect you want.

There are 2 settings, position 1 which is a longer brush with more spaced out bristles, designed to lengthen and separate your lashes to give a more defined look.

By twisting the top you can change to position 2. Position 2 gives you a shorter more chubby brush, which is designed to give more volume to your lashes.

Now I actually cant tell a massive difference between the settings but I can say that position 1 is my favourite. In general I prefer a more defined look to my lashes anyway but I found this mascara really lengthened my lashes and made quite a dramatic difference. I also love how it kept my lashes defined and didn't turn them into a big clumpy mess.

I do think the transformable brush is a bit of a gimmick and a bit wasted on me as I am perfectly happy with the 1 position but overall this is a very good mascara.

Currently on offer in Boots for £6.99 (normal price £10.99)

3 Cult Mascaras

It feels like every week there are new beauty and makeup products to keep up with but there are some that have stood the test of time.

These mascaras have been around for years and are raved about by celebrities, make up artists and magazines. Kim Kardashian's make up artist, Mario Dedivanovic swears by L'oreal's Voluminous mascara. Kate Moss and Sarah Jessica Parker are both reported fans of Maybelline's Great Lash and Max Factor's cult 2000 Calorie mascara has won countless beauty awards over the years.

I thought I would put all 3 to the test.

L'oreal Voluminous Mascara - This was my mascara of choice back in my Secondary School days, you know the time when the clumpier your mascara, the bigger your popularity!
There's no doubt about it, this is a pretty amazing mascara. It builds volume quickly and its the richest black colour which gives a very dramatic effect. My only gripe with this is the potential for clumpiness, spider lashes aren't my thing anymore so I just need to be careful when applying this.

Max Factor 2000 Calorie Mascara - Side note don't you hate it when you get mascara on your eyelids! This is my favourite of the 3, it gives beautifully defined lashes with just enough volume. I love how it really fans out your lashes. The formula is drier than Voluminous and doesn't tend to clump.
I can see why this is a cult classic.

Maybelline Great Lash Mascara - I can remember back in the day reading that this was Sarah Jessica Parker's favourite mascara and rushing out to buy it. I then remember the bitter disappointment when this didn't live up to my expectations. Now, that was back in my spider lash days so I was prepared to give this another try and you know what, its actually a pretty good mascara. The brush is teeny tiny but I quite like that, as you can get each individual lash. It doesn't clump and just gives very good natural looking lashes. I still don't think I would re purchase this mascara but I feel I can now appreciate it!

Maybelline Great Lash So Very Berry Mascara

The only person I know that wears coloured mascara everyday is the lady in the Marks and Spencer BP Petrol Garage, her colour of choice is always blue.

Ever since Jennifer Lopez wore those very controversial red fox fur lashes to the Oscars in 2001 I have wanted a red/burgundy mascara and now 12 years later, my wish came true. I really hope I don't have to wait 12 years for my other hopes and dreams to materialise! Of course this mascara is limited edition and only available in America at the moment but you never know it could be released here and you can also get it on eBay, where I intend to stock up!

This would look great on anyone of any age, especially green or blue eyes and puts a modern take on coloured mascaras. If you are in America, definitely go pick this up. Its also an amazing dupe for
By Terrys Iconic Bordeaux Mascara which is an eye watering £31.00 and, and, and it lasts all day, which is pretty amazing on my panda prone eyes!

P.S I am wearing this mascara in my MAC RiRi Woo post

A Tale of Disappointment - Revlon Lash Potion By Grow Luscious

That moment when your mum says "I'm not angry, just disappointed", the time when you paid £12.00 to see the pile of utter wank that is Breaking Dawn Part 2, the moment your phone lights up and the thoughts that run through your head in those brief seconds, before you see the text message from Dominos.....

Disappointment

It was a disappointment that led me to find this mascara in the first place, 3 Boots and 1 Superdrug later and still no Maybelline Baby Lips! But just as that familiar feeling set in, I saw this sparkly little tube and I thought I had hit the jackpot!

This mascara is relatively new in America so I was surprised to see it released in the UK so soon. I really wanted to try it and it had been on my wish list for when I go to America in September. Plus Superdrug had an offer on, buy 2 Revlon items for £10.00. This mascara was £9.99 so basically buy one get one free, oh I thought all my Christmases had come at once.....

I bought this in waterproof as I am prone to getting panda eyes. Now onto the review....

This mascara is so dry! You know when your mascara is running out but you think it will do one more time, its like that....except its brand new! It took me quite a few coats to get much of anything on my lashes and by this point I was panicking.

As well as the formula not being great, the brush was also pretty useless. Its a bristle brush but there are so many bristles on the thing that none of them grab your lashes. If you want a visual, imagine brushing your hair with a toothbrush.

I don't know if its just the waterproof version that is rubbish but I wont be picking up the normal version to compare. After what felt like the tenth coat and 5 minutes of of faffing around it didn't look too bad but I would definitely not recommend this.

I had given the other one to my mum and when I asked her what she thought she said
"It's not bad....once you manage to get something on the brush"

L'Oreal Telescopic Mascara Carbon Black

I love trying out different mascaras and have found some really good ones lately, so I thought I would start sharing them. I have tried L'Oreals False Lash Telescopic Mascara before and loved it, but I thought it was about time I tried out the original formula.

This comes with a plastic brush with very short and a little scary looking "teeth". Its more of a comb than a brush to be honest. Comb style mascaras will give you great definition and really accentuate each individual lash. They wont build volume though, so if you are a fan of a heavy mascara look a comb wand will not be for you.

The before

And the after! (Don't you just love mascara)

I really like the effect of this mascara. It really defines every one of my lashes without any clumpiness, giving a more natural look. I find it really opens up my eyes and makes me look a lot more awake then I actually am!

I was also really impressed with the lasting power. I normally have to buy waterproof mascaras but this one lasted on me with only minimal smudging on my bottom lashes by the end of the day.

If you are a fan of natural looking, defined lashes I would definitely recommend this. Available from Boots or Superdrug for £10.99

R.I.P Maybelline The Falsies Mascara :(

Its the end of the road for this bad boy. I have loved this mascara and can't recommend it enough. It gives both length and volume and all for £7.99! What I liked most about this mascara is the brush. I hate the plastic brush applicators (think Max Factor False Lash Effect) bristle brushes all the way! The curved design is what makes it unique and makes application a doddle, its also the perfect size as you are able to get to every lash.

I will definitely be repurchasing this mascara, but first I have to use up MAC Opulash which isn't bad, but its not my Falsies :(

R.I.P Maybelline The Colossal Volum' Express Mascara

It is with great sadness that I retire this mascara to the bin. When I originally bought this I wasn't a fan thought it was alright a bit blah. Then months later I found it under my bed and thought I would give it another go and I'm glad I did.

I have loved this mascara, builds volume and adds length, no clumpiness and no smudging or flaking by the end of the day, plus very affordable

I highly recommend this mascara and would repurchase. If you are unsure try leaving it a few weeks so it dries up a bit, like I did.
