New Years Eve Makeup Inspiration: The Glitter Eyes

My third and final NYE makeup inspiration post and I still haven't finalised my own NYE plans!

For the last look I had to go with some glitter, but in keeping with my style I have kept it a bit messy/grungy. I do love glitter but the key is to keep the rest of your makeup simple.

Face

Primer & Foundation
MAC Prep & Prime Skin Base & Dior Star Foundation
Same primer and foundation as I have used for all three of my NYE inspiration looks. As we are using glitter, make sure you do your eye makeup first and apply your foundation afterwards. That way you can wipe away any glitter fall out, without having to re-do all your base makeup.

Concealer
Clarins Instant Concealer
Finally, one concealer instead of three! There has been a lot of hype over this concealer recently but today was the first day I have used it, so I will report back once I have given it a thorough test!

Bronzer
MAC Extra Dimension Bronzer in 'Aphrodite's Shell'
As I was using glitter I was very conscious of looking like Dame Edna, so I skipped contour and just used a bit of bronzer on my cheeks and temples.

Blush
MAC Blush in 'The Perfect Cheek'
I wasn't going to wear a blusher but I felt my cheeks needed a little extra something and this blush is perfect for that. Sadly this shade has been discontinued by MAC but for an alternative, Cubic by MAC is very similar or Tarte's Exposed.

Powder
MAC Prep & Prime CC Compact
This isn't my favourite pressed powder but I am just trying to finish it up!

Highlight
Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Powder in Candlelight
This however is my favourite highlight! A cream highlight would also work really well for this look.

Eyes

Eyebrows
Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in 'Soft Brunette' and L'oreal Brow Artist Plumper in 'Dark Brunette'
My usual eyebrow tools. Make sure you keep your brows looking quite natural, as overly drawn eyebrows and glitter can veer into drag queen territory!

Eyeshadow Base
MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in 'Layin' Low' and Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream in '13'
This look was a bit of an experiment, hence why I ended up using two cream shadows as eyeshadow bases. I used the MAC Paint Pot first as I thought I wanted something a bit thicker as I was working with glitter, but I then decided I wanted something more golden for my base, so added the Aqua Cream on top.

Glitter
MAC Reflects Bronze and Copper Glitter
Its rare that I get to play with my MAC glitters but when I do, I'm reminded why I love them so much. These are actually MAC Pro products so you can't get them from normal counters but you can buy them online or from the MAC Pro store off Carnaby Street.

Eyeliner
Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner and MAC Eye Kohl in 'Teddy'
I love the fine nib of this Stila liquid liner, as it perfect for drawing a more subtle, thin wing. I also used Teddy on my tight line and waterline to really make the eyes 'pop'. If you have blue eyes, try using a brown pencil rather than a black as its less harsh and the brown will emphasise your eye colour more.

Mascara
Tarte Lights Camera Flashes and Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara
To balance the glitter, we need mascara and lots of it! You could wear false lashes with this but just remember my drag queen territory warning!

*Top tip for applying glitter. Wet your brush with either your toner, makeup setting spray or even eye drops. This will help the glitter stick to your eyelid much better and creates an almost metallic foil effect*

Lips

Lipliner
MAC Lipliner in Soar
As all the focus is on the eyes, I kept the lips neutral and just filled them in with MAC's Soar lip liner.

I hope you all have a fun New Years Ever, hopefully I have given you some makeup inspiration for the  evening!

New Years Eve Makeup Inspiration: The Red Lips

If you can't tell by the name of my blog, I love a good red lip. Its the perfect classic party look and its also the quickest way to take your makeup from day to night, so of course I had to include a red lip for my second NYE makeup inspiration.

I have kept the eye look simple with just a bit of adult appropriate glitter. If you wanted to make this look a bit more dramatic, you could add some winged liner or a pair of false lashes.

Face

Primer & Foundation
MAC Prep & Prime Skin Base & Dior Star Foundation
My primer and foundation are the same as yesterdays look because I know they will get me through the night and the Dior foundation has no SPF so photographs beautifully.

Concealer
Bobbi Brown Corrector in Light Bisque, MAC Prep & Prime Highlighter in Light Boost, Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer
The Bobbi Brown corrector helps counteract my dark circles, I use the MAC highlighter to highlight the high points of my face and finally the Collection concealer for any spots that need an extra bit of coverage.

 Bronzer
MAC Extra Dimension Bronzer in 'Aphrodite's Shell'
I didn't want to use a blusher as the lip was so strong, so I just opted for a bit of bronzer to give the skin some warmth.

Powder
MAC Prep & Prime CC Compact
As I mentioned yesterday, powder is a must to prevent those shiny moments.

Highlight
Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Powder in Candlelight
Glitter on the eyes but shimmer on the cheeks remember!

Eyes

Eyebrows
Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in 'Soft Brunette' and L'oreal Brow Artist Plumper in 'Dark Brunette'
This is my personal favourite eyebrow combo.

Eyeshadow Primer
NARS Pro Prime Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base
An eyeshadow primer is a must when using glittery eyeshadows, as it gives the shadow something to adhere to.

Eyeshadow
Bobbi Brown Sparkle Eyeshadow in 'Cement'
I love this glittery taupe colour and the photos just don't do it justice. In real life its super glittery, it almost looks glossy on the lid.

Mascara
Tarte Lights Camera Flashes and Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara
As we are not using any false lashes, make sure you use a really good, volumising mascara. Tarte's, Lights Camera Flashes is my favourite.

Lips

Lip liner
Burberry Lip Definer in Brick Red No5
I got this lip liner for Christmas and I've worn it pretty much every day since. Its the perfect, matte red and I love it worn over the whole lip. If you are planning on wearing a bright lip, I would recommend a matte finish over glossy, as it lasts longer especially when drinking!

New Years Eve Makeup Inspiration: The Lashes

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas, although its not over yet! I am very strict when it comes to enforcing the 12 days of Christmas!

New Year is now looming and with that comes the disappointment which is New Years Eve. I am really not a fan of New Years Eve, so much pressure and you have to pay for a ticket to get in anywhere! I also always find it a bit depressing, accepting that Christmas is almost over and reminiscing on your life, thinking next year will be better and before you know it, its New Years Eve again!

On that cheery note, I thought I would give you some makeup inspiration, whatever your New Year plans are.

This look is centred around the new Cheryl Eylure lashes, which I am currently having a bit of a love affair with.

Face

Primer
MAC Prep & Prime Skin Base
If you are planning on staying up until the wee hours, I would definitely recommend wearing a primer so your makeup lasts. MAC's Skin Base is one of my faves as it makes your makeup stick like glue.

Foundation
Dior Star Foundation
As its New Years Eve, there's a high chance of someone whipping out their camera for a picture, so to prevent flashback face, pick a foundation with zero SPF. At the moment I am really liking Dior's Star foundation, as it provides a good level of coverage whilst still looking natural, it also photographs beautifully.

Corrector/Concealer
Bobbi Brown Corrector and L'oreal Lumi Magique Concealer
If you suffer from dark under eye circles then applying a corrector before your concealer will counteract the darkness and really brighten the under eye area. I then like to use a brightening concealer under my eyes and to highlight the centre of my face (centre of the forehead, bridge of the nose, middle of the chin).

Powder
MAC Prep & Prime CC Compact
Make sure you powder your t zone and keep a pressed powder in your bag. You will be thankful for it later when you are squashed in a pub full of drunken rowdy men!

Contour
Anastasia Contour Kit
I definitely would not contour on a daily basis but as its a special occasion needs must. I tend to just contour in some cheek bones and leave it at that but whatever you do make sure you blend, blend, blend, unless you want to look like Boy George.

Blush
MAC Pro Longwear Blush in Rosy Outlook
As this look is all about the eyes and the lashes, I wanted a pretty but non offensive blush. Rosy Outlook gives a very subtle pink flush.

Highlight
Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Powder in Candlelight
Probably my favourite step of all, if my cheeks aren't shimmering then I ain't going nowhere! This is my all time favourite highlighter because its subtle. When it comes to highlighter you want shimmer, not glitter!

Eyes

Eyebrows
Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in 'Soft Brunette' and L'oreal Brow Artist Plumper in 'Dark Brunette'
Use your eyebrow pencil/powder of choice, just don't get carried away!

Eyeshadow Primer
NARS Pro Prime Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base
If you have oily lids and like me, go to the toilet to find your eye makeup halfway down your face, then an eyeshadow primer is a must. It helps your eyeshadow stay on all night and if you are wearing glittery shadows it also helps give the glitter something to stick to.

Eyeshadow
Charlotte Tilbury Fallen Angel Eyeshadow Palette
This is possibly the most beautiful piece of makeup I own, it is a thing of wonder! I am not precious when it comes to makeup and I always commit the cardinal sin of using my makeup before I photograph it, but even I don't want to ruin that beautiful star embossing.
As I was using a lot of products, I wanted to keep my eyeshadow simple so I just used one colour, which was the bronze colour all over the lid and lightly underneath my lower lash line.

Eyeliner
MAC 'Teddy' Eye Kohl
In keeping with the bronzy/brown tones, I used this metallic brown liner from MAC and smudged a very rough line along the outer corner of my eye, to give a bit of extra definition.

Mascara
Clinique High Impact and Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara
As we are using lashes, any mascara will do.

Lashes
Cheryl Lashes by Eylure in Sexy Senorita
Its been a while since I have worn a full on strip lash but I am obsessed with these new Cheryl Lashes. I didn't have to trim them at all and I love that they don't really look like false lashes. They are very subtle but just give a little something, something ;)
I tried to get another pair of these on Christmas Eve but Boots were sold out *sob*

Eyelash Glue
Duo Dark Tone Eyelash Adhesive
I never use the lash glue that comes with fake eyelashes because its usually crap and Duo glue is the bomb, plus you can now get it in Boots! I love this one because instead of drying clear, it dries dark.

Lips

Lipliner
Jordana Easyliner for Lips in 'Tawny'
The best $1.99 I ever spent. You can't get Jordana in the UK but if you are in the USA then you need to try these lipliners, the quality is amazing and they are so cheap!

Lipstick
MAC Sheen Supreme Lipstick in 'Bare Again'
Again, because this look is all about the eyes I wanted to keep the lips neutral. This lipstick is a new discovery for me and I love the formula. It looks glossy on the lips and feels really moisturising, but still lasts a good few hours and doesn't feel sticky.

The Last Ever Beauty Graveyard Post

I have decided to put an end to my Beauty Graveyard posts and this will be the final one. I actually got a weird kick from saving up all my empty containers of used beauty products, but I am just finding these posts pretty dull now. If I find something I love I tend to stick to it, which meant the 'graveyard' was becoming repetitive and if I'm finding it boring to write, I'm sure its even more boring to read!

I posted my first Beauty Graveyard post back in September 2011! I hope you can tell my photography skills have broadened since then, also my taste in perfume! Although the Beauty Graveyard posts will be no more, I have a new idea but lets just say you are going to have to wait a year to see it!

Onto the empties!

Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer
If I could award myself for finishing a makeup item, I would for this concealer alone! I cannot tell you how many years I have had this and its not because I don't like it, I bloody love the stuff and its my all time favourite concealer, but due to its industrial strength you only need the tiniest amount. My pride is tinged with sadness at seeing this go, but I know we will be reunited!

Hourglass Brow Sculpting Pencil in Soft Brunette
My holy grail brow pencil, I have lost count of how many of these I have got through now and yes I have already repurchased it. I like a full,  ungroomed brow and this is perfect for achieving that look.

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream
I am not a massive BB cream wearer but of the ones I've tried, this is my favourite. It provides just enough coverage to make you look acceptable but the best thing is the healthy glow it gives your skin. A couple of times I've worn this people have commented on how good my skin looked, huzzah!

Estee Lauder Double Wear Brush on Glow BB Highlighter
I can't say this highlighter particularly blew me away. Every brand has released one of these click pen under eye highlighters, so it has to be something special to stand out from the rest. I actually found this to be quite concealing and I would have preferred it to be more brightening. I wouldn't buy again as there are cheaper highlighter pens which are just as good, if not better (e.g. L'oreal Lumi Touch).

Laura Mercier Foundation Primer
I am a big fan of the Laura Mercier foundation primers, although I do prefer the radiant one to the original formula. These really do extend the wear time of your makeup and are well worth the money but since I discovered MACs Skin Base, it will be a while before I go back to Laura Mercier.

Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara
Having a mascara exclusively for your bottom lashes seems a bit excessive I know, but this stuff is amazing! Mascara always smudges on my bottom lashes, even waterproof but this stuff doesn't budge. Also I love the teeny tiny brush because you can really define your bottom lashes and you get a feathery natural finish, no clumpy spider lashes here! Already repurchased.

L'oreal Colour Riche Nail Polish in Boudoir Rose '204'
I have mentioned these mini L'oreal nail polishes quite a few times now on my blog and 204 is by far my favourite shade. You can see what it looks like on the nails in this post here. This is a beautiful soft rose colour and I'm already a quarter of the way through my second bottle.

Tarte Lights Camera Flashes Mascara
This mascara is ahhhmazing. It gives volume but it also really lengthens and separates, I love it. I should also add that this stuff isn't waterproof but it does not budge.
As you cant get this in the UK yet (boooo) I have a secret stash to keep me going!

Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel
This is one of those acid exfoliator type products, which removes dead skin and brightens. I can't say I noticed any real improvement in my skin when using it and as I'm a bit flaky with using face masques, I wouldn't bother to buy this again.

L'oreal Absolute Makeup Remover Eye and Lip
Initially I really hated this eye makeup remover because its crap at removing waterproof mascara. However, since I discovered the Tarte mascara I haven't worn any waterproof mascara and I can say this is actually quite good. It removes non waterproof mascara easily, no rubbing required, but if you are a waterproof mascara wearer don't even think about it.

La Roche-Posay Serozinc
You will be seeing this toner in my 2014 end of year favourites! Serozinc is part of La Roche-Posay's Effaclar range, which is designed to target key signs of oily, blemish prone skin. I apply this all over my face after cleansing and follow up with the Effaclar Duo +
I can honestly say my skin has never looked so good and I am so happy to say that this will finely be available to buy in in the UK shortly!

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo +
Probably my best discovery of the year, this cream has transformed my skin and breakouts are no longer something I have to worry about. I have recommended this to my friends who have been equally impressed, so if you are struggling with breakouts give this a go.

MooGoo Blemish Cleansing Moisturiser
As you can see I take my blemish fighting seriously! MooGoo only use natural, organic ingredients in their products which I love and this Blemish Cleansing Moisturiser does exactly what it says on the tube. This and the Kate Somerville Goat Milk are my two favourite moisturisers.

Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing Gel
My favourite cleanser, god knows how many bottles I have got through this year. I love this because it feels really luxurious on your skin and gets rid of all your makeup in one go, mascara, foundation, lipstick the lot. I rub a blob of this all over my face and then wipe away with a muslin cloth so there's no excuse for not taking your makeup off at the end of the night!

Aussie Mega Instant Conditioner
I love the Aussie Mega shampoo and conditioner. Perfect for greasy hair gals who hate product build up.

Bumble and Bumble Surf Foam Wash Shampoo and Creme Rinse Conditioner
The Surf shampoo and conditioner were a major discovery for me this year. I am not a fan of sleek hair, I'm much more of a wash and go type girl and I like my hair to have some kind of natural movement/wave. These really help achieve that and leave my hair feeling so bouncy and clean. The price does make me wince, but well worth every penny.

Tresemme Instant Refresh Dry Shampoo
I cannot tell you how much I hated this stuff, mainly because it says its translucent but its not at all! This was just like every other horrible dry shampoo and left with me horrible ashy toned hair. NEVER AGAIN!

COLAB Dry Shampoo London and Rio
Its only taken me 8 years but I have finally found a dry shampoo I love! Oh COLAB I f****** love you. This is pretty much invisible, although if you spray too much or too close, you do see some powder residue. Its a much lighter powder (nothing like the horror of Batiste) so you cant feel it in your hair at all. You don't even want to know how many bottles of this Ive got stashed away in my drawer now! Oh and the London scent is by far my favourite!

The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil Shower Oil
I used to love the L'Occitane almond shower oil and I thought this might be a cheaper dupe for that. While I can't say this is as luxurious as the L'Occitane version, it was lovely and was nicer to use than most shower gels. I would definitely get this again and would love to try more from their Wild Argan range.

Mandarin Spa Bali Santi Nurturing Body Milk
I got this in a goody bag from a Cosmo event and have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I loved the coconut scent and the consistency was nice and light, not greasy or sticky at all.

Vaseline Spray and Go Body Moisturiser
The best body moisturiser for lazy people like me. This makes the hideous task of moisturising a lot less painful and theres none of that horrible waiting round in your towel, as it dries instantly.

Face of the Day with Buxom True Nude Lip Foundation in 'Au Naturel'

Technically this is a Face of the Day from about 2 weeks ago but hey, no one needs to know that I'm sitting here with my greasy hair in a massive pineapple, with mascara smeared across my face!

Base

Foundation
Dior Star
This foundation is definitely a grower not a shower. At first I liked it but didn't really have much of an opinion. I've only really started to appreciate it now I'm halfway through the bottle. This gives a medium coverage but looks really natural on the skin, if you are fan of Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua I'm sure you would love this.

Concealer
Bobbi Brown Corrector in Light Bisque, Josie Maran Argan Creamy Concealer Crayon and Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer
The Bobbi Brown Corrector is quickly becoming my best friend, it just gets rid of those horrible dark circles instantly!
I have now finished the Josie Maran Crayon and like the foundation, this really grew on me. I loved the creaminess of this concealer and the pretty highlight effect it gave.
You cant go wrong with the Collection concealer it costs less than a fiver and is so good at covering pesky spots.

Powder
Charlotte Tilbury Air Brush Flawless Finish Skin Perfection Micro Powder
Hideously expensive but worth every penny, as this is the best powder I have ever found!

Bronzer
The Body Shop Honey Bronze Bronzing Powder
If you have fair skin and struggle to find a bronzer pale enough, then you need to try one of these bronzers by The Body Shop. Perfect for Winter bronzing or fair skinned ladies!

Blush
Physicians Formula Happy Booster Glow and Mood Boosting Blush in Natural
I have been using this blush pretty consistently for the last two months. It just gives the perfect natural flush, which I love in these Winter months.

Eyes

Eyeshadow
Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream in #13
I love cream shadows because they are so quick and easy to apply and they never look flat or boring. Shimmery/metallic creams are by far my favourite and this gold offering by Makeup Up For Ever is my current love. Very seasonal, it just gives me that wide eyed awake look.

Mascara
Tarte Lights Camera Flashes and Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara
Yep still loving this duo.

Eyebrows
Soap and Glory Archery Eyebrow Pencil and L'oreal Brow Artist Plumper
I have now finished this Soap and Glory pencil and gone back to my beloved Hourglass Brow Sculpting Pencil. I did love the Soap and Glory and would highly, highly recommend it, but as I prefer a bushy full brow, the Hourglass pencil will always have my heart.

Lips

Lipstick
Buxom True Nude Lip Foundation in 'Au Naturel'
I mentioned how much I was loving this in my Sephora Goodies Post so I thought I better show you what it looks like on. I love the matte finish, personally I find it comfortable on the lips and this is coming from someone who has tried a lot of matte lip products! I just love the colour and the pencil application is genius! If I get to America next year I definitely want to explore the rest of the shades in the range.

Benefit Gimme Brow Dupe - L'oreal Brow Artist Plumper

In September I blogged about Maybelline's new eyeliner which is an exact dupe for Benefits hugely popular They're Real Push Up liner, but half the price. Well now I have another Benefit dupe for you, this time its for their Gimme Brow.

Benefit Gimme Brow (left) L'oreal Brow Artist Plumper (right)

Benefit's Gimme Brow is a tinted brow gel with fibers to give you instant looking fuller brows. Gimme Brow is available in two shades, light/medium and medium/deep. I really liked Gimme Brow, I thought it worked really well and I definitely noticed an improvement in the thickness of my brows but there was one thing that really put me off, the price. Gimme Brow cost £17.50 for 3g of product, three grams! That is an absolute rip off. So when L'oreal released their Brow Artist Plumper, which promised exactly the same results I had to try it.

The L'oreal Brow Artist Plumper comes in three shades, transparent, blonde and dark brunette and costs £5.99 for 7g of product. To put that into perspective, I could buy three of the L'oreal gels for the same price as one of the Benefit ones and apart from the L'oreal Plumper having a slightly bigger brush, they are exactly the same. I actually much prefer the L'oreal version because the colour dark brunette is a much better match for me. I have used this everyday for the past few months which is a pretty big deal, as I used to only use the Illamasqua Brow and Lash Gel.

The one thing that lets both these products down is the shade range. Benefit only has 2 shades and I really struggled to find a match. My hair wasn't dark enough for the dark option but the light option is a little too light for me. L'oreal has three shades and although the dark brunette option matches me perfectly, the blonde shade is awful! Its a metallic gold, which I can not imagine would look good on anyone!

Crappy shade range aside, for me their is no contest here and L'oreal wins by a country mile. If you can find a shade to match your brows, definitely try this!

L'oreal Brow Artist Plumper in Dark Brunette

Available from Boots £5.99
