Face of the Day with MAC Rose and Tan Pigments

For Sundays face of the day I thought I would experiment with some of my more neglected items of makeup. I very rarely use pigments because they are so messy and either spill all over your table or all over your face, I ain't got time for that! But I was in the mood to play with makeup, so with a deep breath out came the pigments.....needless to say I spilt the Tan pigment all over my bed >_<

Face

DIOR Diorskin Nude Glow Complexion Enhancer - "So you're PMS'ing pretty bad huh?" My skin is not looking its best so I thought I would try this out, as I have never actually used it. This comes out a kind of scary bright peach colour but worn under your foundation its mean to give your skin a certain glow.....I'm not entirely convinced.

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation in B30 - I have been a foundation whore recently but every time I use this I'm reminded why its my favourite foundation. It feels so light on the skin, like you aren't even wearing anything.

Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer in Fair - One of my Sephora purchases. I wouldn't have bought this in the UK as its a lot of money for a concealer but I do enjoy using it. Its very high coverage and creamy, I just wish it was a little bit lighter for a more highlighted effect but Fair is the lightest colour they do.

Chanel Tweed Blush in Rose - I can probably count on one hand the number of times I have used this blush. I just feel its not very pigmented and even if I try to swatch it nothing really comes off, I will try persevering.

Eyes

Benefit Stay Don't Stray Eye Primer - Useless packaging but a really, really good eye primer.

MAC Pigment in Rose - Compared to other MAC pigments I have tried, this has a different texture. Its not as finely milled and its a bit more gritty, making it not as nice to apply. Rose is a very pretty pinky gold colour but on me I either have to only wear a little bit or mix it with something else, as it can all get a bit pink eye looking. 

MAC Pigment in Tan - This colour is what makes all the mess worth it. If I were to recommend one MAC pigment, it would be this one hands down. Applied over the top of Rose it gave a beautiful rose gold colour, this is one experiment I will definitely be trying again.

Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow in Toast - Things had got very shimmery and I wanted to tone them down just a little. I blended this in my crease and underneath my lower lash line.

MAC Extended Play Lash Mascara - I mentioned in yesterdays face of the day how much I love this mascara, definitely my new favourite.

Lips

Seventeen Mirror Shine Lipstick in Belle - These lipsticks have been re-packaged and look a lot more fancy now. You can tell how much I loved this from how little is left. For £4.79 these lipsticks are amazing, they leave a very glossy finish so aren't particular long lasting but are very pretty none the less.

Oh and excuse the hair, I slept with it in a bun and really should have washed it but its a lazy Sunday!

Face of the Day with Ellis Faas Creamy Lips in L104

I love doing my makeup on weekends because I have time to experiment and try different things rather than the usual mid week rush. Even if I'm not doing anything I will do my makeup, I put this lipstick on and didn't even leave the house! So I thought for this weekends posts I would do 2 face of the days to show you what makeup I have been experimenting with!

Fleur is possibly my favourite person to watch on YouTube and this Face of the Day features 2 of her October Favourites which I purchased on her recommendation and absolutely love.

Face

Estee Lauder Double Wear Light - Genuinely, the best long wearing foundation I have ever tried. This stuff is amazing, it doesn't budge until you take it off at night. I have tried the original Double Wear before and was impressed but I just love this lighter version. I will make sure to do a full review on this.

Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer - You know I love this concealer and guess who else seems to like it....my brother as he keeps pinching it! 

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer - Another really good, cheap concealer. This has really good coverage so I like to use it on blemishes.

Guerlain Terracotta Moisturising Bronzing Powder in "00 Make Up Artist" - This is a good bronzer for the winter months as its quite light, so just gives your face some subtle warmth.

Bourjois Cream Blush in 03 Rose Tender - I reach for this blush when I either have a strong lip or eye and only want some subtle colour on my cheeks.

Eyes

Guerlain Terracotta Moisturising Bronzing Powder in "00 Make Up Artist" - I used my bronzer as an eyeshadow in my crease. As I'm wearing a bright lip colour I wanted to keep my eye make up minimal.

Rimmel Scandal Eyes Waterproof Kohl Liner in "Nude" - I put this flesh toned colour pencil on my waterline for a bright eyed effect. This kind of colour looks a lot more natural than just a plain white.

MAC Extended Play Lash Mascara - My first Fleur recommendation. I love this mascara, it makes my lashes so much longer but still adds volume. Zero clumping and it lasts all day.

MAC Lingering - For the brows

Illamasqua Brow and Lash Gel - Simply, the best.

Lips

Ellis Faas Creamy Lips in L104 - My second Fleur recommendation, this is such a bright, beautiful lip colour. 

When you first apply this it come out quite a dark fuchsia colour, what I like to do is rub it into my lips with my finger to create a lighter stain and then apply another coat on top. 

We are rapidly approaching the party season and this would make the perfect lip colour. 

At this rate I am going to have to gatecrash some Christmas parties as I have at least 3 lipsticks I want to wear!

Kevyn Aucoin The Celestial Powder, Candlelight - Finally Found What I've Been Looking For

Highlighters are hard to get right, they can either be too glittery or shimmery making your cheeks look like two Christmas baubles. Or the colour is wrong and they are either too pink or golden and leave you with almost extraterrestrial looking skin.

Well not anymore!

I finally got round to trying Kevyn Aucoin's Celestial Powder in Candlelight and all I want to do is throw all those other crappy highlighters away! This is the perfect highlighter, instead of leaving a stripe of patchy glitter on your face this leaves the most beautiful subtle sheen. Exactly what a highlight should be. As you can see this is already well loved! My favourite brush to use with it, is the Real Techniques duo fiber contour brush. I just brush this along the top of my "cheekbones" down the centre of my nose, under my brow bone (if I'm not wearing a shimmery eye shadow!) and in the inner corner of my eyes to brighten them. 

Sadly there is a cloud to this silver lining.......at £34.50 this is an expensive revelation, but for me its well worth it. You can buy the Celestial Powder from Cult Beauty

Beauty Inspiration - Liv Tyler

Let me start by saying I really dislike the term "girl crush" so I'm going to try my upmost to refrain from using it in this post! 

I am a big Liv Tyler fan, I love the woman (I also love her Dad!) 

To me she is the epitome of beauty. I love how striking, yet effortless she looks. If you have ever watched Empire Records you will know what I mean. 

I don't think its healthy to aspire to be any "celebrity" but if something or someone inspires you, that can be a great thing.

Its Livs (first name terms now) effortless beauty that inspires me. She never looks overly made up, her hair is never overly styled. She knows what works for her and sticks with it. 

As I've got older my tastes in beauty have definitely changed. In my early twenties I dyed my hair every colour possible, a night out would not be complete without one or even two pairs of false lashes and I would not leave the house without my winged eyeliner. I look back at some pictures and I don't recognise myself, I feel like I was so lost back then. Now I'm 27 I don't feel the need to hide behind my makeup or dye my hair on a weekly basis to reflect my mood!

I came across this interview with Liv on Into The Gloss and it was a revelation. She divulged her beauty secrets and some of her favourite products, the equivalent of porn for me!

Now I already had a few Liv Tyler inspired purchases but after reading this article I made a few more. I thought I would share them here in case anyone else shares my love!

Clarisonic - This was a surprise birthday present from my friends this year, so a happy coincidence that Liv loves it too! I have been using this for about 3 weeks now and I don't want to do a review until I have used it for at least 6 weeks so I can really give my honest opinion. I will say though that my face has never felt so clean!

Koh Gen Do Moisture Foundation - In the interview Liv mentioned this as her choice for foundation. Koh Gen Do is an eco friendly makeup line created 25 years ago by actress Ai Saotome. Sadly its not available in the UK but if you are in the US you can buy from Sephora. This foundation doesn't feel like makeup, it just feels like you are putting on moisturiser. It definitely works best when applied with fingers as it has a thicker consistency. Once applied this gives such a beautiful natural effect, you wouldn't even know you had foundation on. It has a dewy finish which I like but I do have to powder my oily areas. I have this in the shade 123.

Becca Beach Tint - This was already in my collection and I didn't know Liv was a fan. This is a cream blush which you can also use on your lips for a tint of colour. These Beach Tint's are waterproof as well so have great staying power. Mine is in the colour Watermelon, it doesn't say what colour Liv uses but just pick one that suits your skin tone.

Kevyn Aucoin Creamy Glow in Pravella - Liv says she has used this blush for years and I can see why.  Formula wise it is quite possibly the nicest cream blush I have ever used. Its not sticky, it doesn't stain your cheeks, it blends easily and its long lasting. The colour is such a pretty pink, it gives you a very natural flush of colour.

Givenchy Hydra Sparkling Magic Lip and Cheek Balm - This has been one of my all time favourite products long before I discovered we shared a joint love for it. Liv was the face of Givenchy so she would definitely have been encouraged to push their products but I have read in several interviews that she uses this and it definitely falls into that multi use category she loves. Honestly this is my favourite lip balm, it feels so nourishing on your lips but what I love the most is the pink tint of colour it leaves behind! This was in my top 12 makeup favourites of 2012 and I expect it will appear again this year. Available from Debenhams £18.90

Givenchy Rouge Interdit Lipstick in Liv's Lips - I was like a woman possessed trying to get hold of this lipstick! This was designed especially for Liv as she is a big fan of sheer berry toned lipsticks. Although this looks black in the tube don't be scared, on the lips it come out as a sheer berry colour. 

Sadly this is also only available on Sephora $30.00

Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey - This was also in my top 12 makeup favourites of 2012. I bought this after reading that this was the lipstick used on Liv in Lord of the Rings.

I thought Liv's Lips and Black Honey were going to be exactly the same but they are actually quite different, however they do give a similar effect on the lips.

Bobbi Brown Everyday Pretty Lip and Eye Palette

Bobbi Brown's Christmas collection has me weak at the knees! There are so many beautiful but wearable palettes to choose from. I love the packaging for their Christmas collection, it looks and feels very luxurious and any one of the palettes would make an amazing present for someone. MAC have also released their Christmas collection online but sadly like all their collections this year, it looks like a bit of a let down. So I say forget MAC and go with Bobbi!

This is the Everyday Pretty Lip and Eye Palette, which comes with 2 eyeshadows, 2 lipsticks and a mini lip gloss. There is also a Date Night Lip and Eye Palette, which has stronger colours for the evening (I kind of want that too!)

I love that there isn't a single colour in this palette that I wouldn't wear. On their website its described as "The palette she'll actually use and love" which I think is a pretty perfect description!

Now you don't get any brushes with this palette, personally I think that's a good thing because those sponge tipped applicators are a load of shite. I just apply the lip colours with my fingers or I have one of those retractable lip brushes which comes in quite handy.

Out of all the Christmas collections this year Bobbi Brown really stands out, so get in your Mums/Sisters/Girlfriends good books and treat them to something!

My Favourite Autumn/Winter Lipsticks

I have shown you my favourite Autumn/Winter nail colours and now its time for lips. 

Some of these lipsticks are quite dark but dont be intimidated. I can remember the first time I wore red lipstick and I felt like everyone was staring at me, of course they weren't though. Wear your lipstick with confidence and dont forget to blot!

Revlon Lip Butter in Red Velvet - My love of Revlons Lip Butters is no secret. They feel like a lip balm but with a lot more colour. Red Velvet is my latest addition and its a dark red but as its a little bit sheerer its easier to wear.

Rimmel Kate Matte Lipstick in 107 - My lipstick of the moment and potentially my Christmas lipstick, theres still time though. 

MAC Pro Longwear Lipglass in Driven by Love - Technically not a lipstick, but I wouldnt call this is a lipgloss either. This colour is insanely bright and glossy and lasts for hours but its really sticky. If you can put up with the stickiness this really is a beautiful colour.

Smashbox Fade to Black Be Legendary Lipstick in Black Cherry - Reviewed here, I could love this lipstick for the packaging alone!

MAC Lipstick in Dark Side - Notice how the darker my lipstick gets, the more evil I look! With a lipstick this dark I do recommend keeping your eye makeup basic, of course you dont have to but it makes it a bit more wearable.

MAC Lipstick in Violetta - Is it sad that I can remember all the lipsticks I have worn to the dreaded office Christmas parties. This was my lipstick of choice 2 years ago so I always associate it with Christmas time. Its not as dark as the others and the purple is a fun party colour. Not that an office party is any kind of fun!

Burberry Lip Cover in English Rose - I had to include at least one natural lipstick and this was last years office Christmas party colour! If you have darker hair like me and nude lipsticks drain you out, try this. Its a very Rosie Huntington-Whiteley/Victoria's Secret colour.

Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey - One of my favourite lipsticks of all time. Also the lipstick Zooey Deschanel wears in New Girl and Liv Tyler wore in Lord of the Rings. If you test this out on your hand it doesnt look that great, it looks like a sheer burgundy/brown but when applied the pink/red colour in your lips makes it look completely different.
